Chapter 10 - The Convergence at Midnight

The rain began to lash against the glass facade of the Bellamy Grand as midnight approached, turning the Manhattan streets into a shimmering, blurred canvas of neon lights.
Evelyn sat inside the back of Julian’s chauffeured town car, watching the windshield wipers sweep rhythmically across the glass. The heated leather seats offered physical comfort, but her mind was racing a million miles an hour. She had officially crossed a line from which there was no turning back.
"Your legal team is thorough, Mr. Rhodes," Evelyn said, keeping her eyes fixed on the illuminated tablet displaying the frozen asset reports. "I'll give you that."
"Call me Julian," he replied, sitting across from her in the spacious cabin, a subtle smile playing on his lips. "And we haven't even started yet. The real work begins when the board convenes in the morning."
Before Julian could elaborate, the driver’s partition slid open sharply.
"Sir, we have a problem," the driver said, his voice taut with sudden urgency, glancing into the rearview mirror. "A black Mercedes sedan just pulled up hard behind us, blocking our exit from the valet lane. A man is out of the vehicle and headed straight toward our door."
Evelyn’s breath hitched. She looked out the side window through the rain-streaked glass.
Striding across the wet pavement, coat flying open in the wind, hair soaked and face twisted into an expression of feral, unhinged desperation, was Dominic. He wasn't the untouchable corporate titan anymore; he was a cornered animal charging blindly toward his executioner.
Before the driver could lock the doors, the rear handle rattled violently under Dominic's frantic grip.

Julian didn't flinch. He slowly reached out, rested his hand over Evelyn's fingers on the seat, and locked eyes with her with absolute, unyielding calm.
"Let him try to open it," Julian whispered.
