Chapter 6 - The Predator's Offer

The amber liquid in Julian Rhodes' crystal tumbler caught the chandelier light as he swirled it slowly, his gaze never leaving Evelyn's face.

Evelyn gripped the handle of her overnight bag tighter, her knuckles turning white. The cavernous lobby of the Bellamy Grand seemed to shrink around them, the murmurs of the concierge desk fading into a distant hum. How could Julian possibly know what had just happened upstairs? How could a man whose reputation was built on corporate ruthlessness and hostile takeovers be standing here, offering her a lifeline at the exact second she felt entirely untethered?

"You look like a woman who has just realized that the cage she spent years cleaning was built out of stolen glass," Julian said softly, stepping a fraction closer. He didn't invade her space, but his presence commanded it.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Rhodes," Evelyn replied, her voice steady despite the adrenaline spiking through her veins. "And I certainly don't need professional assistance from someone who treats human lives like quarterly assets."

Julian let out a low, dry chuckle, lowering his glass slightly. "Do I look like a philanthropist to you, Evelyn? I'm not offering charity. I'm offering a partnership. Dominic has been bleeding my subsidiary accounts dry for six months through shell corporations and falsified invoice routing. He thinks he's clever because he uses intermediaries, but every wolf leaves tracks in the snow."

Evelyn froze. The pieces of the puzzle clicked together with terrifying speed—the sudden influx of capital into Dominic's personal accounts, the late-night encrypted calls, the strange stress lines around his eyes that had nothing to do with her.

"You're tracking him," Evelyn breathed.

"I'm hunting him," Julian corrected smoothly. "And you happen to hold the master key to his entire digital safe. Every password, every backup drive, every hidden ledger he foolishly left in the penthouse study because he thought his wife was too polite to ever look."

Before Evelyn could answer, her phone buzzed viciously in her coat pocket. She pulled it out.
