Chapter 50 - The Unseen Signal

"Jason... look at this," Erica said, her voice dropping to a tense whisper as she spun the terminal around so the display faced the bench.
Jason leaned in, his eyes scanning the incoming data stream. It wasn't a financial ledger this time. It was a single, encrypted video file, accompanied by a string of coordinates nestled deep within the Bernese Oberland mountains.
Liam glanced back from the helm, cutting the throttle slightly as the RHIB coasted smoothly into the sheltered cove of a secluded Hampshire fishing pier, where a nondescript black sedan waited silently in the shadows of the tree line.
"What is it?" Liam asked, cutting the outboard engines entirely as the boat drifted gently against the wooden pylons.
Jason didn't answer immediately. He reached out and tapped the play icon on Erica's screen.
The video feed flickered to life, showing the dim, wood-paneled interior of a private alpine chalet. Sitting behind a heavy mahogany desk, nursing a glass of scotch with a small bandage visible on his temple, was Viktor Vance. He wasn't behind bars, and he didn't look defeated. He looked like a man who had anticipated this exact scenario years in advance.
> "If you're watching this, Jason," Viktor’s recorded voice echoed softly through the small cabin speakers, carrying a chillingly warm, paternal tone, "it means you successfully burned the Dorset bunker. You proved you have your father's stubborn streak—and his unfortunate lack of vision."
Viktor took a slow sip of his drink, leaning forward slightly as if he were looking directly through the camera lens into Jason's eyes.
> "You think you destroyed the syndicate by leaking the ledgers, my boy. But the Basel clearinghouse was never the foundation. It was just the shield. The real engine—the original trust that holds the titles to every asset we've acquired over the last three decades—isn't digital, and it isn't in a bank."
The video paused, replaced on the screen by a high-resolution topographical map of a remote Swiss valley, centered directly on a sprawling, heavily fortified estate buried deep in the snow-capped mountains.
> "It's waiting for you here," Viktor’s voice concluded smoothly before the file terminated and the screen went dark. "If you truly want to finish what you started, come find me. I'll leave the front gate unlocked."
The screen faded to black, leaving only the sound of the gentle waves lapping against the wooden pier.

Jason sat in silence for a long moment, the cold wind whipping through his hair. The fatigue that had threatened to overwhelm him moments before was entirely gone, replaced by a sharp, unyielding resolve. He stood up from the bench, stepped onto the pier, and looked back at Liam and Erica.
"Pack the gear," Jason said quietly, his voice steady and resolute. "We're going to Switzerland."
