Chapter 67 - The Confrontation

Arthur Calloway recovered his composure within seconds, his lips curling into a sneer of cold disdain. He adjusted his cuffs, leaning both hands against the mahogany table.

"Clara," Arthur said smoothly, his tone dripping with patronizing venom. "How theatrical of you. Bringing your disgraced brother Julian and an outside debt speculator to a private board meeting. But you're wasting everyone's time. You hold twenty percent of the voting equity. The institutional quorum is aligned behind me. You don't have the numbers to stop this resolution."

"She doesn't need to stop it, Arthur," Ethan Vance said, stepping forward. He didn't take a seat. He walked down the length of the table, his commanding physical presence forcing the board members to shrink back into their leather chairs. "She’s here to replace you."

Arthur laughed, a dry, harsh bark. "Replace me? With what authority, Mr. Vance? You bought distressed debt on secondary markets. You are a third-party creditor. You have no seat at this table, no voting rights, and no legal standing in Calloway Global."

Ethan reached into his breast pocket, pulled out a folded document with a gold Commonwealth of Massachusetts seal, and tossed it onto the center of the table. It slid across the polished wood, stopping inches from Arthur’s hands.

"That is a certified probate declaration executed at seven this morning," Ethan said.

Arthur glanced down at it, dismissive. "I don't care about Boston probate—"

"Read the name on line three, Arthur," Ethan whispered.

Arthur’s eyes drifted down to the document. As he read the certified text, the arrogant smirk on his face vanished completely. The color drained from his skin, turning his face an ashen, sickly gray.

*Heir Apparent: Ethan Richard Pierce-Vance. Firstborn son of Eleanor Pierce and Richard Pierce.*

"No," Arthur stammered, his voice losing its resonance, cracking under sudden, suffocating panic. "This... this is an absurdity. Eleanor’s first child died at Massachusetts General Hospital in nineteen eighty-eight. The death certificate is filed in Boston!"

"The death certificate you paid Dr. Robert Langston fifty thousand dollars to fabricate," Clara said, stepping up beside Ethan. She pulled the yellowed hospital registry slip and Eleanor’s handwritten letter from her portfolio, slapping them down over Arthur’s red folder. "We have the original birth registry. We have the hospital intake logs. And we have Eleanor’s recorded testimony naming you as the extortionist who threatened my father."

The three institutional board members leaned forward, whispering frantically.

"Arthur, what is this?" the representative from Vanguard asked, his voice shaking. "Are these records authentic?"

"They're forgeries!" Arthur shouted, his composure shattering as he pointed a trembling finger at Clara. "She's desperate! Her husband betrayed her, her father committed suicide, and now she’s bringing an imposter into my boardroom to steal my life's work!"

"My father didn't commit suicide, Arthur," Clara said, her voice dropping into an icy, lethal calm that froze every man in the room. "You murdered him. You cut the fuel line on his boat on Lake George because he found the Liechtenstein accounts. And we have the nineteen ninety-two green ledger from Beacon Hill to prove it."
