Chapter 68 - The Defection

The mention of the green ledger sent a physical shockwave through Arthur Calloway. He stepped back from the table, his knees bumping against his executive chair.

"The ledger..." Arthur whispered, his eyes darting frantically toward his lead attorney. "You didn't... it was destroyed. In ninety-two, the Boston archive was cleared!"

"Richard took it before your men set the fire," Julian said, stepping forward, his voice hard with decades of accumulated anger. "He hid it in the reinforced floor safe behind Eleanor’s portrait. He kept every transaction, every forged signature, and every wire transfer you used to build this tower."

Ethan turned to the representative from Apex Capital. "Mr. Harrison. At three this morning, Vance Sovereign assumed full voting control over Apex’s eighteen percent. Do you confirm this transfer?"

Harrison swallowed hard, looking terrified. He avoided Arthur’s murderous glare and raised his hand. "Confirmed. Vance Sovereign holds our proxy."

"Vanguard Trust," Ethan said, turning his piercing gaze onto the second institutional member. "Under Section 8 of your fiduciary charter, you are legally prohibited from supporting an executive under active federal criminal investigation. Special Agent Miller and the Southern District United States Attorney are currently unsealing three indictments against Arthur Calloway for wire fraud, extortion, and tax evasion."

The two federal marshals standing at the back of the room stepped forward, unbuttoning their jackets to reveal their badges.

The Vanguard representative stood up immediately, raising both hands. "Vanguard abstains from the Calloway resolution and cedes our proxy to the majority family trust."

"Sterling Equity," Clara said, her voice commanding the room with absolute mastery. "Will you vote with the Pierce family, or will you share Arthur Calloway’s criminal liability?"

The Sterling trustee didn't hesitate for a second. "Sterling votes with the Pierce trust."

"No!" Arthur roared, slamming both fists onto the table. "You cowardly bastards! I made you billions! You can't strip my chairmanship! I founded this corporation!"

"You didn't found it," Clara said, walking directly to the head of the table. She stood opposite Arthur, towering over him in moral authority. "Our mother funded it. Our father designed it. You were merely the parasite who stole it."

Ethan reached out, pulled the corporate minute book from the center of the table, and opened it to the resolution page. He picked up his gold fountain pen, signed his name with a bold, decisive flourish, and handed the pen to Clara.

"By virtue of sixty-seven percent of the voting equity," Ethan announced, his voice reverberating throughout the entire forty-eighth floor, "the board of directors hereby terminates Arthur Calloway as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Calloway Global, effective immediately."

Clara took the pen. Beneath Ethan’s signature, she wrote her name: *Clara Pierce.*

And beside her name, she added the final, devastating order: *Company name reverted to Pierce Heritage Global.*

"Security," Clara commanded, looking toward the private guards who had entered with the marshals. "Escort Mr. Calloway out of our building."
