Chapter 65 - The Quantum Core Secure

Voss forced a thin, nervous smile, raising his hands slowly in the air. “You think capturing me will stop the network, Captain? Aegis is an idea, not a building. There are buyers waiting in Singapore, in Dubai, in London—”

“I don't plan on keeping you, Heinrich,” I interrupted, my voice flat and icy. “I plan on handing you over to the naval task force currently steaming toward our coordinates.”

Before Voss could lunge for the emergency purge button on the edge of the console, I stepped forward, striking him across the temple with the heavy polymer grip of my pistol. He crumpled unconscious to the floor, sprawling across the metal grating.

I turned to the terrified technician, who sat frozen with his hands raised high in the air.

“Abort the extraction,” I commanded, pointing my weapon at his screen. “Initiate a full system wipe of every quantum core in this rack, and download the complete transfer manifest into my secure drive.”

The technician swallowed hard, his fingers trembling as he began typing frantically on the keyboard. “Yes, ma'am! Right away!”

Within twenty minutes, the quantum storage cores were completely scrubbed and mirrored into our secure portable drives, and Voss was securely zip-tied and locked inside the ship's holding brig alongside his surviving technician.

Ethan boarded the ship through the lower hangar bay just as the distant rumble of naval destroyer engines echoed across the stormy Atlantic waters.

“The U.S.S. Roosevelt just checked in on our secure radio relay,” Ethan reported, a satisfied grin playing across his lips. “They’re five miles out and moving in to secure the Prometheus and take Voss into federal custody.”

I walked over to the observation window, looking out into the stormy expanse of the ocean as the first gray light of dawn began to break over the horizon.
