Chapter 66 - Dawn Over the Atlantic

The storm had finally broken, leaving behind a pristine, crystal-clear morning over the open Atlantic. The golden rays of sunlight crested the rolling swells, casting a brilliant, warm glow across the deck of the naval research vessel as two gray-painted Navy helicopters hovered overhead to lower a boarding team.

Back inside the secure cabin of our high-speed interceptor, which was now tethered safely to the stern well of the naval destroyer, Ethan and I sat reviewing the final data transfer logs from the Prometheus.

“Every core has been successfully neutralized,” Ethan confirmed, tapping the edge of his tactical pad. “Marcus Vance just sent confirmation from Washington—Voss’s buyer network has been completely blacklisted, and the last remnants of the Aegis leadership are officially facing military tribunals.”

I leaned back in my seat, letting out a long, slow breath. My tactical gear felt heavy, but the digital files on our secure drive were clean, verified, and safely archived.

“So,” Ethan smiled, looking across at me. “Do we head straight back to Tahoe, or is there another ghost waiting for us on the horizon?”

“No ghosts left, Ethan,” I said softly, looking out at the endless horizon where the blue ocean met the sky. “The perimeter is secure. Let’s go home.”

The interceptor detached from the destroyer, its twin engines purring smoothly as we set our course back toward the Azorean airstrip, ready to make the long flight home to the grand villa by the lake.
