Chapter 11 - The Interrogation Room

The fluorescent lights of the Raleigh Federal Building hummed with a sterile, soul-crushing frequency. Inside Interrogation Room B, the air smelled of ozone, old carpet, and unyielding bureaucratic dread.
Ethan Calloway sat hunched over a scarred metal table, his customized Italian leather shoes scuffed, his tie missing entirely. The steel cuffs biting into his wrists anchored him to a reality he still refused to accept. Across from him sat Special Agent Marcus Vance—no relation to Beatrice, but sharing her relentless, shark-like demeanor—alongside a silent stenographer whose fingers hovered eagerly over a stenotype machine.
"Let’s try this again, Mr. Calloway," Agent Vance said, leaning forward, resting his forearms on the table. He slid a thick manila folder across the cold steel. "According to our forensic accountants, between January and September of this year, over fourteen million dollars was siphoned from Calloway Logistics operational accounts into offshore shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands. And every single wire transfer bears your digital signature key."
"It was an authorized corporate restructuring!" Ethan snapped, his voice cracking with defensive hysteria. He threw his hands up, the handcuffs clanking violently against the table. "Look at the market fluctuations! We were expanding our supply chain logistics into the Caribbean basin! It’s standard venture capitalization!"
"Standard venture capitalization doesn't usually involve purchasing a multi-million-dollar penthouse in Nassau under the fictitious DBA name 'Ocean Breeze Holdings'," Vance replied smoothly, flipping open the folder to reveal high-resolution color photographs of the deed, complete with Ethan’s signature notarized by a disgraced clerk in Miami. "And it certainly doesn't involve forging your wife’s power of attorney to drain her personal trust funds as collateral."
Ethan’s breath hitched. His mind raced back to Grace—radiant, calm, wearing that emerald dress as she watched him get hauled away like a common street criminal. The horrifying realization settled like lead in his stomach: she hadn’t just stumbled onto his infidelity; she had methodically mapped out his entire financial labyrinth, waited for him to overextend, and handed the blueprint directly to the Department of Justice.
"I want to make a phone call," Ethan muttered, staring blankly at the metal table. "I have rights. I want my counsel."

"Your lead counsel was picked up twenty minutes ago for obstruction and subornation of perjury," Vance said without blinking. "And as for your corporate assets? Pierce Global filed an involuntary Chapter 11 restructuring petition thirty seconds after your arrest. By sunrise tomorrow, Calloway Logistics won't even bear your family name."
As the door clicked open and a guard stepped in to escort Ethan back to his holding cell, Ethan realized the terrifying truth: his empire was gone, his mistress was stranded in the Bahamas with frozen credit cards, and the woman he had underestimated for years was holding all the cards.
