Chapter 4 - The Ultimatum downstairs

Down in the lobby, Ethan was losing his grip.

"What do you mean my cards are declined?" Ethan shouted at the front desk clerk, slamming his platinum card down onto the marble counter for the fourth time. "Call the manager back! Call the issuer! There's a million-dollar liquidity buffer in that account!"

"Mr. Calloway, I must ask you to lower your voice, or I will have security escort you off the premises," the desk clerk said firmly, sliding the rejected card back across the counter without a shred of sympathy.

Vanessa stood a few feet away, wringing her hands, her red silk dress feeling less like a luxury statement and more like a neon sign advertising her humiliation. "Ethan... people are staring. Let's just go back to the villa and figure this out—"

"We don't have a villa anymore, Vanessa!" Ethan roared, spinning around to face her. "My key card is dead! My corporate accounts are locked! Do you realize what just happened? That man... that man just bought my entire company out from under me while my wife watched!"

Before Vanessa could answer, a sharp, familiar chime echoed through the lobby.

Ethan whipped his head around.

The private elevator doors on the far side of the lobby had just slid open.

Grace stepped out first, elegant, composed, and radiant in her emerald maternity dress. Behind her walked Declan Pierce, flanked by two towering men in tailored suits—actual security professionals this time, carrying sleek communication earpieces and leather briefcases.

A third man stepped out of the elevator holding a thick sheaf of legal papers.

Ethan bolted across the lobby like a sprinter leaving the blocks.

"Grace! Stop right there!" Ethan yelled, cutting directly into their path.

Declan’s security detail moved instantly, stepping in front of Ethan with quiet, immovable precision. One of them placed a firm hand against Ethan’s chest, stopping him dead in his tracks.

"Get your hands off me!" Ethan snarled, thrashing against the guard's grip. He locked eyes with his wife. "Grace, what is this madness? You think you can just show up here with some billionaire playboy and ruin everything I've built? We're married! Half of everything I own belongs to you!"

Grace stopped. She tilted her head slightly, looking at him with a chilling mixture of pity and contempt.

"Correction, Ethan," Grace said, her voice carrying clearly across the silent lobby. "You don't own anything anymore."

She motioned to the man carrying the legal papers. He stepped forward, pulling a single laminated sheet from the top of the stack and holding it out toward Ethan.

"What is this?" Ethan demanded, panting heavily.

"That," Grace said quietly, "is a temporary restraining order prohibiting you from approaching within five hundred feet of me, our home, or any Calloway Logistics property. Served on behalf of my legal counsel."

Ethan stared at the paper, his mind reeling. "A restraining order? On what grounds?"

"Domestic financial abuse, corporate fraud, and documented infidelity," Grace replied without blinking. She turned toward the exit, where a sleek black Mercedes Maybach was idling curbside with its door held open by a chauffeur.

"Grace, wait!" Ethan shouted desperately, his voice cracking as panic finally pierced his armor. "Please! We can talk about this! We have a baby coming! Don't do this to us!"

Grace paused with her hand resting on the open door of the Maybach. She looked back at him one last time—not with anger, but with absolute, crushing indifference.

"You should have thought about the baby, Ethan," she said softly, "when you were spending our daughter's college fund on hotel rooms in the Bahamas."

She slid into the back of the car.

Declan followed her, pulling the door shut behind him.
