Chapter 3 - The Boardroom in the Sky

Four floors above, inside the Halcyon Crown’s sprawling glass penthouse, the atmosphere was a stark contrast to the panic downstairs.

Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the turquoise Atlantic crashing against white sands. A private butler had already set up a low glass table with sparkling water, fresh fruit, and a stack of legal documents tied with red ribbon.

Declan Pierce poured two glasses of sparkling water, handing one to Grace.

"You handled that with remarkable restraint," Declan noted, sitting back in a plush cream leather armchair. "Most women would have thrown a vase at him."

Grace took the glass, her fingers cool against the crystal. She walked over to the window, resting her free hand gently against the gentle swell of her stomach. She felt the sharp, reassuring kick of their baby—a quiet reminder of why she hadn't screamed, why she hadn't cried, and why she had spent the last three months quietly liquidating every hidden asset Ethan thought he had tucked away.

"Vases cost money, Declan," Grace said softly, a faint, ironical smile touching her lips. "And right now, I prefer to take everything he owns instead."

Declan chuckled, a deep, resonant sound. "The forensic audit your team ran on Calloway Logistics was a masterpiece. I’ve bought out failing companies for fifteen years, Grace, but I've never seen a spouse dismantle a cheating CEO's empire quite so methodically before the divorce papers were even filed."

"Ethan thought he was the smartest man in every room," Grace replied, turning away from the view to look at the billionaire across from her. "He spent three years siphoning company funds into offshore accounts to support his lavish lifestyle with women like Vanessa, assuming I was too pregnant and too trusting to notice the missing decimal points."

"And instead, you redirected those very same wire transfers into a blind trust under my corporate umbrella," Declan finished for her, raising his glass in a silent toast. "Which allowed me to execute a hostile takeover of his logistics firm at a sixty percent discount this morning."

Grace walked over to the table, picking up the final document in the leather folder—the master operating agreement bearing Ethan’s forged signature on a falsified liability waiver.

"He thinks this trip was a secret getaway," Grace whispered, her eyes hardening. "He has no idea that the moment he signed that fake investor agreement last month, he legally signed away his personal liability. When the federal embezzlement charges drop on Monday morning, Ethan won't just lose his company. He'll lose his freedom."

Declan set his glass down, his expression turning serious. "The federal prosecutor in Raleigh is ready to move whenever we give the green light. But are you sure you want to go all the way, Grace? Once we file these final pages, there’s no turning back."

Grace looked down at the signature line, remembering the late nights she had spent alone in their sprawling suburban home while Ethan was allegedly 'closing deals' in New York. She remembered the cold beds, the broken promises, and the quiet humiliation of finding another woman's earring nestled between the cushions of their living room sofa two weeks ago.

"Turn back?" Grace said, sliding the pen out of its holder. "Declan, I haven't even started."
