Chapter 26 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The executive boardroom of Aegis Global’s London headquarters on Threadneedle Street was a masterpiece of Victorian architecture and modern corporate luxury. Polished mahogany walls reflected the cold London dawn filtering through massive arched windows overlooking the Thames.
At precisely eight o'clock in the morning, the heavy oak doors swung open.
Grace Calloway-Pierce walked into the room with the measured, flawless stride of an empress. She wore a tailored black Alexander McQueen trouser suit, her blonde hair pulled back into a severe, elegant knot, her expression carved from absolute ice. Behind her strode Declan, his sharp eyes scanning the faces of the twelve senior executives seated around the long mahogany table.
A nervous murmur rippled through the room. Several board members shifted uncomfortably in their leather chairs. Word of the financial irregularity had apparently leaked to a few key insiders even before official trading hours.
Sitting at the far end of the table, looking impeccably groomed in a custom charcoal suit, was Sir Alistair Vance—no relation to Arthur or Julian, but a high-ranking British aristocrat and the chairman of Aegis Global’s European oversight committee. Sir Alistair offered a warm, practiced smile as Grace approached the head of the table.
"Good morning, Mrs. Pierce," Sir Alistair said smoothly, his voice dripping with aristocratic charm. "We heard rumors of a minor technical glitch in our treasury accounts overnight. We certainly didn't expect you and Mr. Pierce to fly in from Paris on such short notice."
Grace didn't sit down. She placed both palms flat on the polished mahogany surface, leaning forward slightly as she stared directly into Sir Alistair’s pale blue eyes.
"It wasn't a glitch, Sir Alistair," Grace said, her voice cutting through the silent room like a razor. "It was a calculated, unauthorized wire transfer of three hundred million dollars directed into an offshore crypto-escrow account managed by the Orion Syndicate."
An audible gasp echoed around the table. Several executives began whispering frantically among themselves. Sir Alistair’s polite smile didn't waver, though a microscopic bead of sweat formed near his temple.
"My word," Sir Alistair feigned shock, pressing a hand to his chest. "An international syndicate? That is a grave accusation, Grace. Surely our compliance department has verified—"
"Our compliance department didn't authorize the transfer, Sir Alistair," Declan interrupted smoothly, walking around the table and tossing a heavy black leather folder directly in front of the chairman. "You did."
Sir Alistair stared down at the folder. "I beg your pardon?"
Declan leaned down, resting his hands on the back of Sir Alistair’s chair. "We ran a forensic trace on the cryptographic authorization keys used to bypass the primary compliance gateway at midnight. The private digital signature belongs to the chairman's executive terminal. Specifically, your personal security token."
The room fell into a dead, suffocating silence. You could hear the distant ticking of the antique grandfather clock in the corner.
Sir Alistair slowly sat back in his chair, the mask of aristocratic charm completely evaporating, replaced by a cold, venomous sneer. He let out a dry, chilling laugh.
"You really think you're untouchable, don't you?" Sir Alistair hissed, looking between Grace and Declan. "You think because you outsmarted Ethan Calloway and locked up Julian Vance that you own the boardrooms of Europe? The Orion Syndicate is bigger than you, bigger than Aegis Global, and certainly bigger than any American upstart who thinks she can play corporate queen."

"We don't think we own the boardrooms, Sir Alistair," Grace said softly, her amber eyes blazing with an unyielding fire. "We just proved that we can evict the rats."
Before Sir Alistair could react, the heavy boardroom doors flew open, and two British federal financial enforcement officers stepped into the room, flanked by Arthur Vance holding a federal arrest warrant.
