Chapter 49 - The Hostile Takeover

The execution of the takeover was a masterclass in corporate warfare, orchestrated with the precision of a military campaign.
For forty-eight hours, our financial acquisitions team worked around the clock, quietly snapping up Vanguard Pharma’s devalued corporate bonds and floating shares through anonymous institutional conduits. By Tuesday evening, Vale Meridian controlled twenty-eight percent of Vanguard’s voting stock—making us their single largest stakeholder overnight.
At 7:00 AM on Wednesday, while Viktor Vance was likely sipping his morning espresso in his executive suite in Zurich, our legal team filed an emergency shareholder motion for an immediate leadership recall, backed by the irrefutable evidence of illegal corporate espionage and surveillance against Vale Meridian's CEO.
My phone buzzed on the mahogany desk at precisely 8:30 AM. It was Sarah Lin.
"Madam Chair, Viktor Vance is on an emergency conference line. He’s demanding to speak with you directly."
I pressed the speaker button. A breathless, frantic voice filled my office.
"Dr. Vale! This is Viktor Vance. What the hell is the meaning of this? Your shell companies just locked up our board voting rights, and our stock is in freefall!"
I leaned back in my chair, my voice calm, controlled, and utterly devoid of mercy.
"Good morning, Mr. Vance. It appears your surveillance methods need an upgrade. You tried to play a dangerous game in my mother's backyard, and now you're learning the cost of trespassing in my world."
"This is a hostile maneuver!" Vance stammered, his professional composure completely shattering. "You can't just dismantle a century-old European pharmaceutical giant overnight!"
"Watch me," I replied coldly. "Your board has thirty minutes to accept a unanimous termination resolution, or Vale Meridian will liquidate your remaining assets to pay off your corporate debt, leaving you with nothing."
There was a long, suffocating silence on the other end of the line, broken only by the sound of heavy, panicked breathing.

"We... we accept the terms," Vance whispered, the defeat crushing the life out of his voice.
"Effective immediately," I said, and disconnected the call.
