Chapter 64 - The Gathering Storm

Back in Manhattan, the victory over Dr. Klaus’s betrayal did little to ease the underlying tension in the executive suite.
It was Wednesday evening, and the thirty-fourth floor was bathed in the amber glow of city lights stretching across the East River. Evelyn stood by her desk, staring down at a freshly printed intelligence dossier delivered personally by Arthur just ten minutes prior.
The dossier contained satellite imagery, financial wire logs, and maritime tracking reports detailing a massive, highly suspicious accumulation of capital moving through private Swiss accounts—all converging on a single, isolated maritime logistics firm operating out of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta.
The firm was called Aegis Maritime Corp. And according to Arthur’s deep-web infiltrators, it was entirely fronted by Julian Thorne’s remaining inner circle.
The door to her office clicked open, and Sarah Lin walked in, holding a steaming mug of tea and a digital tablet displaying pre-market economic forecasts.
"Evelyn," Sarah began, her tone urgent. "I’ve just reviewed the logistical manifests for next Monday's global pediatric rollout. Every regional transport is locked and secured, but our shipping insurers in London are suddenly demanding an unprecedented twenty-fold risk premium for our Mediterranean shipping lanes."
Evelyn didn't look up from the dossier. "On what grounds?"
"They cite 'unforeseen geopolitical instability' in the Maltese territorial waters," Sarah explained, handing the tablet across the desk. "Look at this. Over the past forty-eight hours, three independent cargo vessels carrying medical supplies through the Strait of Sicily have been boarded, harassed, or forced to divert by unregistered naval patrollers."
Evelyn finally raised her eyes, a cold, calculating smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "Unregistered patrollers. Julian Thorne isn't just hiding in the shadows anymore, Sarah. He’s building a private naval blockade."
"A blockade?" Sarah’s eyes widened in disbelief. "In international waters? That’s an act of piracy. If he interferes with our global pediatric transport, he’s cutting off life-saving cellular regeneration treatments to millions of children across three continents."
"Which is precisely why he's doing it," Evelyn said, walking back to her leather executive chair and sitting down with deliberate grace. "Thorne knows he can't win a legal battle against Vale Meridian in a civilized courtroom. He knows his financial empire is crumbling. So he’s resorting to raw, unadulterated extortion. He wants to choke our supply chains until I am forced to negotiate terms on his doorstep."
"We need to notify international maritime authorities immediately," Sarah urged. "File an emergency injunction with the United Nations Security Council."

"And by the time the UN debates a resolution for three weeks, our medical supplies will rot in a Maltese port," Evelyn countered sharply. "No, Sarah. We don't wait for bureaucrats to save us. We take the fight directly to his doorstep."
She pressed the intercom button on her desk. "Arthur. Get in here. We have a blockade to break."
