Chapter 77 - The Night With No Driver

Adrian missed the last scheduled flight out of Vermont after Leo became sick with a mild fever. He stayed at the green-shuttered house instead of sending a physician from Manhattan.
Dorothy reported that the pediatrician had advised fluids, rest, and observation. No one needed a private hospital wing.
“He fell asleep in the chair,” she told me, amused.
“Who?”
“Adrian. He was reading the train book and stopped halfway through a sentence. Leo pulled a blanket over his knees.”
I pictured the scene and felt something painful soften inside me. The man who'd once claimed he couldn't miss a shareholder dinner had missed a plane for a child who wasn't counting him as an asset.
The next day Adrian called, hoarse from sleeping in a chair. “Leo said I should get a better chair.”
“He's right.”
“I ordered one.”
“Of course you did.”
May you like
He laughed. “I also asked him to choose it.”
That was the part I remembered.
