Chapter 82 - The False Certainty

Adrian's private counsel admitted the statement he had made at the Plaza about our supposed restored marriage had been unsupported and improperly presented. His firm corrected its internal memorandum and produced a record of the advice he'd actually received.

Miriam reviewed it with me. “They discussed a possible motion and potential factual grounds. They did not have your consent. They did not have an order.”

“I knew that intellectually,” I said. “But hearing it from someone besides Adrian helps.”

She nodded. “People with confidence and authority can make uncertainty sound like law.”

I considered seeking further remedies for the misleading statements. Miriam explained the options and the evidence we'd need, without pushing me toward litigation simply to make a point. I chose to preserve my rights and focus on practical boundaries for now.

That evening I moved the cedar box of wedding photographs from beneath the bed to the top shelf of my closet. I wasn't hiding it. I simply no longer needed it at eye level.
