Chapter 78 - The Trust Protector's Question

Margaret Ashford requested a meeting with Adrian and Vanessa about the stalled trust transfer. She asked them to identify the purpose of the proposed transaction before discussing signatures.

Adrian's answer was full of numbers and clauses. Vanessa's answer was that Leo needed stable assets protected from the company's volatility.

Margaret listened, then asked, “Could those goals be achieved without moving this particular asset now?”

Neither trustee answered immediately.

The alternative was straightforward enough to sound unfamiliar: maintain the existing trust holdings, use authorized reserves for Leo's care, and defer the disputed restructuring until the investigation clarified the risks. The lawyers would check whether a court order was needed for any interim steps.

Adrian admitted he had wanted the transfer because it would simplify corporate reporting.

“And whose problem does it simplify?” Margaret asked.

I wasn't in the room. Noah told me only the decisions relevant to Leo. But that sentence traveled all the way to Brooklyn and stayed with me.
